Ivy Monteiro is an afro-brazilian shapeshifter with a BA in Fine Arts (Performance focus), from ZHdK (Zürich) and a BA in Social Communication from Anhembi Morumbi (São Paulo).
As one of the TSEF co-founders and former president of the fund, Ivy remains on the team as the Head of the Mentoring Board, bringing her expertise to help us continue growing sustainably.
In October 2024, Ivy received the prestigious Swiss Performing Arts Awards, the largest prize in Switzerland for artists on her field of action.
Currently, Ivy is part of a stellar cast of drag artists performing a new version of The Little Mermaid, directed by Bastian Kraft and co-produced by the Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Thalia Theater Hamburg.
Ivy sees herself as an educator and developer of practices and performative roles in Dance, Music and Theatre Performance.
As an artist, she re-imagines race, gender and femininity through (dis)identifcation and a post-colonial perspective.
Ancestrality and spirituality are reshaped and envisioned in queer futuristic pieces where the artist reclaims and questions their space in our apocalyptic future.

Their work has been presented in galleries, theaters, museums and festivals such as: Perla Mode, Tanzhaus, Zürich Moves!, Theater Spektakel Zürich (Zürich); The Museum of Image and Sound (São Paulo); Queer Biennial II (Los Angeles); Eco Futures Festival (London); VBKO (Vienna); Counterpulse (San Francisco); Les Urbaines (Lausanne); and the Opening of the Swiss Pavilion for the Venice Biennale in 2019.
Ivy also produces of events for trans/non-binary & queer BIPOC people such as Hella Mellanated, FEUCHT and Drag Story Time, besides having been a pillar for other events such as Kweer Ball.
Under the name “Tropikahl Ivy“, they carry the Mother title for the Trailblazer Swiss Chapter of the House of Laveaux (ex-Poderosa), first kiki house within German-speaking Switzerland, and the Swiss chapter of the Iconic House of Saint Laurent.

Ivy is one amongst the many Trans artists we wish to celebrate in this new series.
For us to have more and more Trans people becoming amazing artists, we need to make sure they have their basic needs met first.
