INDIANARA SIQUEIRA (1971, Brasil)
Indianara Siqueira is a Brazilian trans indigenous activist, with M’bya Guarani ancestry. She started her activism as she saw many colleagues die with the arrival of the AIDS epidemic in São Paulo.
She founded the Group Filadélfia that fought to make sure Trans people had their social name on the medical records.
Later, sold to an international human trafficking scheme , she freed herself by paying the amount she was sold for. Living in Europe, she supported sex workers in Switzerland by renting apartments for them to work freely. She also reported human trafficking networks in France which led her to spend 2 years in prison where she fought for Trans women’s rights to feminine clothing and recognition.
Since 2009, Indianara resides in Rio de Janeiro where she is the president of the group Transrevolução and founder and coordinator of CasaNem — a shelter for LGBTI+ people in situations of cultural and social vulnerability.
She is also the creator of the term “transvestigenere” and one of the first people to have their document gender marker changed to Non-binary in the state of Paraná.
